The Layla mattresses is a flippable, 10-inch memory foam mattress. Its reversible design means the mattress has two firmness options, offering a soft yet supportive side along with a firm side for sleepers looking for a more resistant surface. Switching between these firmness options is as simple as flipping the mattress.
Along with its flippable design, the Layla offers multiple layers of pressure relief and temperature control. With excellent motion isolation, it’s also a great mattress for couples.
This all makes the Layla a versatile and impressive mattress, particularly for its below-average price point. The mattress will appeal to a wide range of sleepers and is available even to sleepers on a limited mattress budget.
In this review, we’ll take a closer look at the Layla mattress, including its specifications, pros and cons, and why you may want to consider it as your next mattress purchase.
Layla Mattress Overview
A flippable mattress at a great price.
The Layla mattress is a flippable memory foam mattress. It’s 10 inches thick and available in all standard US sizes, from Twin to Cal King.
The bed is made up of six layers. For this breakdown, we’ll use the softer side as the uppermost layer. The layers are reversed when the mattress is flipped.
- The top layer is covered with a cooling cover featuring thermo-gel cooling technology that reacts with body temperature to regulate heat. The cover has a zipper for easy removal. This layer is in a white/gray stitched pattern.
- The top layer is of copper-gel memory foam. This is a 3-inch layer that provides comfort and manages heat. The copper gel is also antimicrobial, which limits the development of odors and keeps the mattress hygienic. Variable support offers relief for common pressure areas.
- Next is a 2-inch support foam layer. This layer is inset with channels for cooling and uses zoned surface modification technology (SMT) for customized support.
- The middle layer is a 4-inch foam support core. This is designed to limit motion transfer and reduce bounce and provides the main support structure for the bed, no matter which way the mattress is flipped.
- Another copper-gel layer, 1-inch thick, provides the same support, cooling, and anti-microbial properties when the mattress is flipped and acts as its top layer.
- Finally, the bottom layer is covered with the same thermo-gel covering. This cover is darker (black/gray) to create a clear visual difference between the two sides of the mattress.
One of the Layla’s biggest selling points is its two firmness options that sleepers can choose between simply by flipping the mattress.
The light gray side of the mattress is a medium-soft firmness, while the darker black/gray side is the firm option.
This makes the Layla bed suitable for a wide variety of sleepers and even for those who would like to vary their sleep habits. The medium-soft option is great for light and average weight sleepers with an emphasis on comfort. The firm option is perfect for heavier sleepers and those who want some extra support.
The bed’s price varies by the mattress dimensions and the price for each size is shown in the following table. Note that this cost will be higher if you’re adding optional extras, such as the foundation or foam topper.

Layla Mattress Breakdown
To help you establish whether the Layla should be your mattress of choice, we’ve answered a few common questions. For more on our mattress review process, check out our methodology.
Is it made from quality materials?
The Layla mattress is made of high-quality and durable foams, protected by covers on both the top and bottom sides of the mattress. In addition, the foams are enhanced with gels and SMT technology which elevates them above the performance of similar mattresses.
How long will it last?
The Layla mattress is a relative newcomer, so there’s not much performance data on how long the Layla will last in practice. However, concerns about the Layla’s durability are offset by the lifetime warranty. The Layla’s high-quality materials also mean it should perform well in the long-term.
The typical lifespan of a memory foam mattress is around 6-7 years. This is about the lifespan recommended for any mattress, so the Layla should last until you’re due for your next change of mattress.
How well does it conform to my body?
The Layla mattress offers excellent conforming properties thanks to its memory foam design. This provides sleepers with a high level of comfort along with support around key pressure points.
The multiple layers of foam accentuate this further, creating a cushioning effect that can be felt throughout the mattress.
The firm side of the mattress conforms less than the soft side, as this is the nature of a firm mattress, which typically provides support over conforming.
Is the edge supportive?
Memory foam mattresses tend to have weak edge support, leading to deformation at the edge of the bed. The Layla lacks any reinforcement for its edges, so sleepers who tend to sleep near the edge may find it doesn’t suit their sleeping habits. The Layla’s edge support is no worse than average for a memory foam mattress, however, and its high-quality materials should allow the overall mattress to keep its shape for as long as possible.
Does it sleep hot?
Memory foam mattresses often trap more heat than other mattress types. The Layla mattress uses copper-infused foam and SMT technology to correct some of this heat retention. The result is that the Layla retains less heat than an equivalent memory foam mattress, but it still sleeps hot in comparison to other mattress types because it hugs the body.
Will it off-gas when it’s delivered?
Many mattresses can emit odors when new. In extreme cases, these odors can be unpleasant and linger for a long time.
The Layla doesn’t appear to experience much off-gassing. However, as a memory foam mattress, this does remain a possibility. There aren’t many reports of off-gassing from Layla mattresses, so if you do experience off-gassing problems, you may want to speak with Layla to replace the mattress.
Will I feel my partner move during the night?
Foam mattresses typically have excellent motion isolation, and the Layla mattress is no exception. The foam only tends to deform at the site of the movement, preventing the transfer of motion through the bed. The multiple, deep layers of the mattress all play an additional role in dampening movement. Couples may choose the Layla mattress if they find themselves waking up to their partner’s movement.
Who is Best Suited for a Layla Mattress?
The Layla mattress suits a range of sleepers thanks to flippable design, which offers firmness options that will suit most sleepers. It works for most sleeping positions, though stomach sleepers will likely want to use the firmer side to get the support they need.
Couples who are looking for strong motion isolation will appreciate the Layla’s motion-absorbing foam, which will limit motion to the immediate impact area. This is perfect for couples who frequently disturb each other’s sleep.
Side sleepers and back sleepers will both find strong pressure relief from the deep layers and zoned support of the mattress. Stomach sleepers may not benefit as much, but the bed should still provide an acceptable level of comfort for all but heavier stomach sleepers.
The firm side of the mattress is best suited for average weight side and back sleepers, while stomach and light sleepers will probably want to use the soft side.
The Layla is also appealing to sleepers on a budget. The Layla offers excellent quality and a flippable design at a below-average price point for a memory foam mattress. That makes the Layla not only attainable but also a great deal. The sleep trial features no return fees, so costs won’t balloon for customers who want to test their bed.
Edge sleepers may not get as much out of the Layla due to its lack of edge support, and heavy sleepers may find the mattress doesn’t suit their support and firmness needs.
